- What exactly is Computer Cut Vinyl?
Vinyl is the same material pin stripping is made out of on cars and trucks. It’s also what is commonly used for bumper stickers. We purchase large rolls of select long lasting brand name vinyl and a computer controlled cutting machine scores and contour cuts the vinyl into letters and graphics.
There is no clear or white background as with decals & labels. The entire set of computer cut images (letters, graphics, logos, etc.) are masked together in one piece, already pre-spaced for easy alignment & application to virtually any smooth, clean surface. The vinyl letters are self-adhesive and will stick best when applied with a squeegee.

- Which Type of vinyl should I use, Premium or Intermediate Vinyl?
For all applications involving any type of vehicle or boat, we strongly recommend our select brand of Premium Vinyl rated for 7-10 years outdoors. The small price difference easily pays for itself with extended outdoor durability, color stability and it’s ability to conform to irregular surfaces such as rivets on enclosed trailers and panel trucks.
The reflective vinyl is the best choice when you need or want extra visibility at night. This vinyl does not “glow in the dark” but rather “lights up” like street signs do at night when light is directed at the reflective material … it “reflects” the light back.
The 3M Quality Brand of Intermediate Vinyl offers the most cost effective choice for shorter term outdoor applications and all indoor lettering projects. For example, if you intend to sell your vehicle within say 3 years, then the intermediate vinyl could be the best choice for you.
When in doubt, you can never go wrong choosing the premium grade vinyl. If you are on a tight budget though and/or you don’t need extended outdoor durability, save your money and choose the intermediate 3-5 year vinyl.

Just remove the vinyl graphics with the assistance of a little heat from a hair dryer. If you notice any paint oxidized around the graphics, car wax and/or rubbing compound can bring back the original luster and shine of the paint finish, just like new.

- So what size letter should I buy and what should the lettering say?
First, determine the size area you have to work with. For example, if you are lettering the door of a truck, measure the “working area” available to apply the lettering. Be sure not to include areas with obstructions like mirrors or body side moldings.
Second, determine exactly what you want to say. For example, the name of the business is typically the largest, the phone number the 2nd largest and the lettering in between is smaller yet to fit the area nicely.
The less words you have to display, the larger you can make your message appear. More words leaves less and less room to fit everything in. The idea is to balance your message by keeping it concise and to the point without eliminating anything important.
You also want to balance the amount of area around your message so the words don’t appear too crowded or “busy”. You want a nice, clean looking layout that’s easy to read at a glance.

SignMagic features over 120 sign quality letter styles to choose from. If you have a particular letter style you want us to use instead, just send us the TrueType font and we’ll be happy to supply your vinyl letters just the way you want them, no extra charge.
If you have a graphics program like CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator or some other program capable of exporting an .eps vectorized file, just convert your fonts to curves and upload your design right into the design center.
To protect our program from a potential virus threat, we don’t allow any images to be “cut & pasted” into our software, not even text. You have to use the “Upload Logo/Artwork” function.

- Which colors do I have to choose from?
We offer a broad range of colors and shades to choose from. If you need a certain color you don’t see in the SignMagic color palette, just give us a call or e-mail us with a Pantone Matching System (PMS) color number to see if we can match it.
The rich vinyl colors offered are actually far more vibrant than what you see on the screen.
Please note that it is impossible to get “web safe” computer screen colors to match the exact shade of the actual color of the vinyl. If you need an exact color match, please request a sample before ordering.

Many file types such as .eps, .jpeg, .tiff, .bmp and others can be upload directly into the design engine for instant viewing, resizing and moving on-screen.
We have CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, Photo Shop, Flexi Sign, Casmate and other programs to open and import a wide variety of file types. All of our systems are Windows XP based so any MAC files must be converted to a file type one of our programs can import such as an .eps or .ai file.
If you wish to check compatibility of your file with our software, e-mail your file directly to sales@signsrus.com and for very large files, we can give you FTP access to our server.
