Are you making a huge mistake when you are buying your real estate signs?

Every day we get phone calls from potential clients who want to buy real estate signs. We are always happy to help them. But sometimes we have to bite our tongues. These real estate clients want Coroplast (the plastic signs). They don't want aluminum signs, they say. Coroplast is cheap, and good for their usage. And we have to bite our tongues. Because we know that it's not.

Why Coroplast is not the best choice for real estate signs

Don't get me wrong. Coroplast is a good material and makes signs that work just fine, but they are really designed for situations other than real estate. Why? In order to answer that we need to take a look at Coroplast.

Coroplast is a corrugated plastic. It is like a plastic cardboard. Yes, it's waterproof and can last outside up to 2 years. It is slightly cheaper than aluminum and can be displayed in a frame to give it a finished look, but is that enough to make it the right choice?

Because Coroplast is that plastic cardboard is has a "wavy" look to it. When you apply the vinyl to the sign, it gets a wavy look too. This takes away from the professional look that you want to show your clients. Also, Coroplast doesn't stand up to winds very well. If there is traffic passing by constantly (or you live in a windy area) the chances of your real estate sign being bent is very high.

Corrugated plastic is a great choice for political signs, a sign to advertise a special sale, or other short term purposes. But to get the most for your money, they are not the best choice in real estate signs. There overall appearance is not as professional as aluminum and you have to replace them on a regular basis. For the clients who choose to take our advice, we always recommend aluminum for the best real estate signs.

Why would you make your real estate signs from anything other than aluminum?

The process to make an aluminum real estate sign is exactly the same as a Coroplast sign. The price difference is only because of the difference in the cost between a panel of Coroplast and a panel of aluminum. What the sign industry doesn't tell you is that there is actually very little cost difference between Coroplast and aluminum in normal situations.

When you choose to go with aluminum you create a very professional looking sign. The aluminum has a extremely smooth finish. There is no waviness to distract from the design. What this means to you is that when the vinyl is laid out on the sign it is perfectly smooth. It enhances the look of your design, where waviness can detract from it.

The aluminum is also rust resistant and rated for outdoor use for 10 years. Although the aluminum is lightweight, it stand up to wind better than a Coroplast sign. Those two facts alone mean you are saving money because you don't have to replace your real estate signs constantly.

So you have looks, quality, durability and a reasonable price. It seems like an easy choice. But maybe you are thinking about the bottom line and aren't concerned about what your clients really think of your real estate signs.

Why should you care if your clients like your real estate signs?

The real estate industry is about more than just selling real estate. It is about image. Your professional image to be exact. The more professional you look and behave the more likely you will be to get the best clients. When you place a sign in a neighborhood you aren't only advertising the house for sale, you are advertising yourself and your business. The person passing by may not be buying a house today, but what about tomorrow? And let's not forget about the people in the neighborhood who may choose to sell their home in the future.

You need to make the right impression and since you can't be everywhere at once your sign has to do that for you. If you want the "right" clients you have to use the right sign. After all people buying or selling million dollar properties don't want to work with someone who isn't the most professional. So why would anyone choose a real estate sign that isn't the most professional?

By choosing the aluminum real estate metal signs you get a sign that expresses professionalism, exudes quality and lets people know that you are serious about your business. By paying a little extra now, you will be able to see a difference in your bottom line. And isn't that what this is all about?
