All About Street Banners
What exactly is a street banner? are the banners that you see hanging over the road that announce special events, festivals and the like. They are a great way to get the word out about a happenings. We see them frequently for things like parades, expos, festivals and lots of other events.
Street banners are designed to attract attention and give people information about the event. The digitally printed banners are colorful and can have many different types of images and lettering to allow you to key in on your target audience.
Are street banners made differently than other banners?
Street are made from a heavier vinyl than most banners. We use a 2-0 ounce extra heavy duty blockout vinyl. The vinyl is made with a super, tough webbing sewn into the hem for extra reinforcement. Grommets should be placed every 2’. Wind slits substantially reduce wind loads and are now usually required by municipalities on all vinyl street banners.
Blockout vinyl is a special vinyl made for purposes like street banners. Blockout means that the light will not pass through it making it unreadable. This is important for street banners that may have the sun directly behind it. What good would a banner be if you couldn’t read it?
What holds up street banners?
Correctly made street banners have grommets every 2 feet. A grommet is a metal ring that reinforces holes that are made in the edge of the banner for hanging purposes. Make sure that you have plenty of rope to hang your street banners. We typically recommend that you weave the rope through the grommets all the way across, making sure to leave enough rope at each end to secure it where it will be hanging over the street.
Is there anything special you need to know to hang a street banner?
Street banners have to be hung very carefully and always with safety as the priority. Each municipality has rules and regulations that must be followed for the safety of their citizens. Please be sure to adhere to these rules. If you try to take shortcuts, you endanger anyone who may be passing under. Besides the fact that we would hate to see someone hurt, it would certainly spoil your event if your announcement caused an injury.
We know the requirements for street banners and routinely take all necessary precautions to help you make the most of your street banners and your event.
