Using a Resume to Promote Your Business and Your Outdoor Sign

Outdoor signage attracts attention simply because it is outside for everyone to see. Once a potential customer comes inside, how do you keep their attention? One idea that I came across recently was to write a resume of your business to give to those potential clients. It helps them to feel that they know something more about you and your business than just what it sells.

Your outdoor sign brought them in, now tell them what kind of experience your business has

Think about writing a personal resume. You start out with your contact information. Give your customer the same type of information for your business. Is this the only location of your business, how long have you been here? Did you move from another location? How long has this business been around?

After that you list your education. Hmm, what kind of education to training classes do your employees take? Do they get updated training periodically? And how about you? Where have you learned all of your information? Have you studied under a master of your trade, or are you self taught, learning from your mistakes.

Now it is time to list your previous jobs. In your business you can list the most prestigious jobs, or customers that you have handled. Did you do work for a major corporation? Put them in your resume. Did you create a product that you are especially proud of? Highlight it in your resume. This is where you get to do a little bragging and point out the areas that you most want your potential customers to be aware of.

Hobbies or associations. That is easy to understand. Is your business involved in an association connected to your field? Does your business sponsor a school team? Do you or your employees to volunteer work that helps the community? These are certainly things that many prospective clients will want to know. And all this because your outdoor sign attracted them enough that they came to see you.

Do you have references or did your outdoor sign bring customers in mistakenly?

References are the last part of the resume. If you don't already have some testimonials that can be put into your resume, contact some of your clients. Let them know that you would like to get their opinion on the service or product you provided. You can send an email asking for their opinion, you can do an interview in person or over the phone, or you could even send a mailing out with a self addressed stamped envelope. Get real testimonials from real clients. Put their words into your resume. It gives your prospective clients a chance to see what it is that previous customers have liked about your service, or what they felt was most important.

Now you have an impressive resume to hand out to your prospective client. You will after all be working for them, so why not let them know that you understand they have a choice. Just be sure they also know why you are the best choice for them. And all of this because of one little outdoor sign.
